JAIL GUARD ARRESTED ON ASSAULT CHARGES

- BY MATTHEW REISEN JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

A Bernalillo County correctional officer was arrested last week for allegedly beating his girlfriend and holding her against her will at a Southwest Albuquerque apartment complex.

Christopher Facey, a 30-year-old Metropolitan Detention Center officer, is charged with false imprisonment, interference with communications and battery against a household member in the Jan. 5 incident.

Facey made headlines in 2018 when he was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge after he beat an inmate at MDC. That case ended in a reported $70,000 settlement with the county.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court:

Police were called around 4 a.m. to the Diamond Mesa apartment complex, near 98th and Blake SW, after a woman reported that her boyfriend was drunk and wouldn’t leave her apartment. By the time police arrived, the boyfriend, identified as Facey, had left the complex.

The woman, who had multiple bruises and scratches on her arms, told police Facey was drinking and had become aggressive after she asked him to leave. The woman said she locked herself in her room. She said Facey then punched a hole through the door, unlocked it through the hole, and threw a beer can at the wall. The woman said she went into the bathroom and tried to call 911 but Facey hit the phone out of her hand and blocked her from leaving.

The woman told police that Facey said the only way he would leave is if she called police, and then he grabbed and shoved her multiple times as she tried to escape. After an hour, the woman said she was able to get away and Facey chased her through the complex before leaving.

Officers tracked Facey to a friend’s house, where they made announcements over a loudspeaker until he gave himself up. Facey refused to speak with police.
