Civil rights activists to speak
Two prominent civil rights activists will be interviewed on the phone during a special radio program on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Listeners will hear from Bernard Lafayette Jr., chairman of the Southern Christian Leadership board of directors, a member of King’s staff and one of the Freedom Riders who fought to enforce federal integration laws on interstate bus routes in 1961, and Bishop Calvin Wallace Woods Sr., who was a close personal friend and adviser to King, worked to end segregation in Birmingham, Alabama, and was a co-founder of the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights.
The program will air at 3 p.m. on KUNM, 89.9 FM, and will be hosted by the Rev. Charles E. Becknell Sr., and KUNM gospel music program host Cecilia Webb.
