Jose Toby Gonzales

-

On December 30, 2020, surrounded by loved ones and music, Jose-Toby Gonzales died at home from long term effects related to COPD.

Jose-Toby loved all music but his favorite was the music of Northern New Mexico, the place of his birth. Jose-Toby also loved to dance and most weekends could be found dancing with the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Maria-Lesida Gonzales. Together they led the Marcha at countless weddings and celebrations and loved to dance and socialize with friends and fellow veterans at the American Legion Posts 49 and 99.

Jose-Toby served in the Air Force for 22 years and created a life for his family filled with adventure and appreciation for other cultures. But most importantly, he taught his children, Belinda (Billy), Toby (Bobby), Steven and Lisa the importance of family, faith, honor and respect for our country and the veterans who served.

In addition to his wife and children, Jose-Toby is survived by his grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Tommy, Teela and Steven II, greatgrandchildren, Haylie, Lauren, Steven III, Archer, Julias and Xoey, great grand-daughter Emmie, brothers Melio, Lee and and daughter-in-law

The Gonzales family is immensely grateful for the outpouring of support they have received from family, friends and neighbors near and far. So many have reached out to express what a kind and happy man Jose-Toby was and to share memories of the positive ways he touched their lives. Because Jose-Toby gave us all so much to remember, we know he will never be forgotten.

The family also wants to thank Armada Hospice, especially Nurse Matt and Chaplain Joey who was with him when he passed and sang him into heaven.

Jose-Toby will be laid to rest at the Veterans Memorial in Santa Fe with services held post-Covid.
