It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Ofelia at 98 years of age.

She passed quietly into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong resident of New Mexico.

Ofelia was born to Leopoldo and Sofia Rael in Sile, New Mexico. She was the second child of 13 which included her half-sister. Her parents operated a general store in Cochiti Pueblo where she spent her formidable years.

Ofelia married Amado A. Romero (WWII POW) in 1950 which lasted until Amado’s death in 2002. Ofelia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 years, Amado; her beloved son, Leo; son-in-law, Jon Facey; as well as many of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Mark, James (Doris), Maria, Leonard, Helen Johnsen (Mike), David, Patrick, Ann Bieri (Mark), and John (Abigail). She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a mass of Christian burial with reception will take place at a later date to be announced. If you wish to donate, in keeping with our mother’s precept “never forget the poor”, please give to those less fortunate than yourself.
