CJay Boone, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound wide receiver who last played at Missouri, has transferred to play football at the University of New Mexico, he announced via Twitter by saying he’s committed to the Lobos on Saturday night.

UNM coach Danny Gonzales said earlier Saturday that the Lobos had been recruiting and tracking a couple of wide receivers from Power 5 programs. He later confirmed that Boone will start classes at UNM on Tuesday.

Boone, rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN and a three-star recruit by 247 Sports coming out of Parkway North High School in St. Louis, played in one game for Mizzou in 2019 and was a redshirt. He opted out of the 2020 season in September. The Tigers went 5-5 under first-year coach Eliah Drinkwitz this past season. Boone entered the transfer portal in October.

He caught 34 passes for 677 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 19.9 yards per catch as a senior in 2018 at Parkway North.

UNM was scheduled to begin weight training workouts and meet as a team on Tuesday, but Gonzales has moved that start date to Feb. 1. Instead, the players will quarantine for two weeks and will then be tested for the coronavirus before training in small groups, Gonzales said. UNM is restricted from training as a team in large groups due to the COVID-19 guidelines in New Mexico.
