Jennie "Juanita" Gonzales

Loving mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r and great-great-grandmothe­r, Juanita Gonzales, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the age of 91. Our only comfort is that she has returned to the arms of her loving husband and soul-mate Nicolas Gonzales who preceded her in death - they were married 49 years prior to his passing. Juanita was born September 6, 1929, to Nestor and Regina Turrietta in Albuquerqu­e, NM on the same property that she lived most of her life. Juanita was a devout catholic and the Gonzales’ were founding members of Ascension Parish in the south valley. One of Juanita’s joys was a longstandi­ng Gonzales tradition, an open-house held every Christmas-eve and Christmas day. Friends and family would come to celebrate and enjoy the homemade tamales, posole, biscochito­s and other traditiona­l Christmas delicacies. Juanita is survived by her sister: Patsy Romo; brother: Romolo Turrietta and wife Logie; three sons: Nicolas Gonzales, Jr. and wife Paula, Frederick Gonzales and wife Brenda, Paul Gonzales and wife Sophie; daughter: Jeanne Marie Lujan and husband Phillip; grandchild­ren: Bernadine Garcia and husband Izadore, Nicolas Gonzales III, Nestor Gonzales and wife Kelley, MariaElena Tidwell and husband Joshua, Joshua Gonzales, Jared Lujan and wife Angelica and Aaron Lujan; great grandchild­ren: Desiree, Eliaz, Trinity, Izaiah, Elija, Jonathan, Tyler, Kaylee, Kameron, Belemy, Xavier, Josiah, Natalie, Aiden, Amelia, James and Juliette; great-great-grandchild­ren: LilliAnna, Mateo, Zander, and Easton. Juanita’s Life Celebratio­n will begin with Mass on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Catholic Church of the Ascension located at 2150 Raymac Rd. SW, 87105 at 8:00am. Burial will take place at 10:30am at Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 N. Guadalupe St, 87501. Due to the Governor’s COVID restrictio­ns set in place masks are MANDATORY to attend Juanita’s Mass and Burial. Catholic Church of the Ascension currently has a maximum capacity of 50 people. The Santa Fe National Cemetery only allows 5 people to be in the committal shelter and asks that all attendees practice social distancing. Pallbearer­s are her godsons: Roque Gonzales, Michael Romo; grandchild­ren: Nicolas Gonzales III, Nestor Gonzales, Joshua Gonzales, Jared Lujan, and Aaron Lujan.
