Eagles near deal with Indy’s Sirianni to be head coach
Pittsburgh giving Haskins 2nd chance
PHILADELPHIA — Nick Sirianni’s success working with quarterbacks with different styles will come in handy in his new job.
The Philadelphia Eagles are nearing a deal to hire Sirianni, 39, to be their head coach, according to two people familiar with the decision. Both spoke to The AP on condition of anonymity Thursday because the team hasn’t officially announced the hiring.
Sirianni was the offensive coordinator for Indianapolis the past three seasons under coach Frank Reich, who was offensive coordinator in Philadelphia when it won the Super Bowl three years ago.
Sirianni also was an assistant with the Chiefs and the Chargers.
STEELERS: Dwayne Haskins, 23, will attempt to kick-start his career with Pittsburgh.
The Steelers signed the ex-Redskins QB to a futures contract, giving him a second chance after he flamed out in Washington in less than two seasons.
CHIEFS: QB Patrick Mahomes took the majority of first-team reps in practice, even though he remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, raising expectations he will start in the AFC title game Sunday against Buffalo.
KUBIAK: Gary Kubiak, who coached Denver to the Super Bowl title five seasons ago, has retired. He was Minnesota’s OC in 2020.
RAMS: LA hired Raheem Morris to be its defensive coordinator. He replaces Brandon Staley, who became the LA Chargers’ head coach last weekend. Morris finished last season as Atlanta’s interim head coach.
FALCONS: New Atlanta coach Arthur Smith began assembling his staff, naming Dave Ragone, Dean Pees and Marquice Williams as coordinators.
Ragone, Pees and Williams will coordinate the offense, defense and special teams, respectively.
