Joseph Sullivan
Sullivan spent 38 years with the Philadelphia Police Department before retiring last year as deputy commissioner of patrol operations.
In his three years as deputy commissioner, Sullivan oversaw thousands of officers and civilian employees and served as the department’s liaison to the Anti-Defamation League and the Jewish Federation. Sullivan also served as the first official liaison to the LGBTQ community and built a “nationally recognized” model to govern police interactions with trans citizens.
Prior to that, Sullivan worked up the ranks in the department from patrol lieutenant to commanding officer before spending seven years as chief inspector.
Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in administration of justice from Penn State University before getting his master’s in emergency management from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.
