Progressives are not radical leftists

We now have a reality-based, experienced leader in the White House. Trump supporters were taught to fear “socialism” and that it will overtake the United States of America. Actually, the U.S.A. has historic socialist underpinnings.

Consider the following: Do you drive on public roads or interstate highways, visit the public library, drink water from a community water system? Rely on the fire department and local law enforcement? Do you enjoy public parks, national forests, monuments and other natural resources? Do you depend on the U.S. military to defend borders and interests? These are all “social” constructs, taking into account both individual and greater social needs.

Don’t confuse “progressives” with “socialism,” succumbing to a Cold-War, red-baiting scare tactic. According to Fox News exit polls, 72% of voters of all stripes want “a governmentrun health care plan” and 70% support “increasing government spending on green and renewable energy.” Yes, government for the people and of the people. Today’s capitalism is predatory and benefits only the 1%. It has evolved past its usefulness to greater social needs. President Biden won counties that represent 70% of the U.S.A’s economy. That is huge. These are not Cold War socialists. They are U.S. citizens who seek progress and call themselves progressives; their concerns are safe air and water, preservation of lands, and equal access to food, health care and medicine.
