UNM TENNIS: Sarah O’Connor of Dublin, Ireland and Stefanie Frias De Silva of Vancouver, British Columbia have been signed for 2021-2022, women’s coach Vicky Maes announced.
UNM GOLF: In Tucson, New Mexico shot a 1-under 283 in the second round of the Arizona Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament, dropping the Lobos to third place with a cumulative score of 11 over, 20 shots behind first-place Arizona. Lobo Sam Choi is tied for sixth at 1 under with rounds of 71-70.
SOCCER: Albuquerque High midfielder Midfielder Noah Escobedo will join the New Mexico United Academy Team for the 2021 season, United announced Tuesday.
AUTO RACING: James Hinchcliffe will return to Andretti Autosport for a full IndyCar season, a huge recovery after the popular Canadian cobbled only six races together last year. Andretti Autosport will also field full-season cars in 2021 for Colton Herta, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Alexander Rossi. Marco Andretti has so far only announced the Indianapolis 500 on his IndyCar schedule.
COLLEGE ADMINISTRATION: UNM athletic director Eddie Nuñez has been named as a new board member for the LEAD1 Association (“LEAD1”), which represents the athletics directors of the 130-member schools of the Football Bowl Subdivision (“FBS”). Along with Nuñez, Allen Greene, Director of Athletics at Auburn University was also named to the board.
HORSE RACING: Santa Anita has canceled live racing on Friday because of strong rains expected to hit Southern California over the next few days. Track officials say they will schedule extra races throughout next week.
