Lobos finish 3rd at Arizona tourney
TUCSON — Led by a pair of Lobos tying for fifth place. the University of New Mexico men’s golf team finished third of 17 teams in its season opener at the Arizona Intercollegiate, which wrapped up Wednesday.
Host Arizona, one of six Pac12 schools in the field, won with a 2-under 852. The Lobos, at 16-over 868, came in behind Wake Forest (plus-4 856). Lobo junior Sam Choi and sophomore Albert Boneta finished tied for fifth at 1-over par 214.
New Mexico State finished last in the field at 53-over 905, though the Aggies shot even-par 284 on the final round. The top Aggie finisher was Albuuqerque’s Aidan Thomas (12-over-par 225, tied for 53rd).
Both the Aggies and Lobos return to action Feb. 14-16 at the All-American Intercollegiate hosted by Houston in Humble, Texas.
