The two paid leave bills debated Thursday are largely similar but contain some key differences. Here are highlights:
House Bill 20 — Healthy Workplaces Act
Employees would accrue at least one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked. Workers for small businesses with fewer than 10 employees could use up to 40 hours of paid leave annually, while those working for larger businesses could take up to 64 hours of leave per year. Could be used for personal or family medical emergencies, during declared public health emergencies and in response to cases of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.
House Bill 37 — Paid Sick Leave Act
Employees would accrue at least one hour of paid leave for every 30 hours worked. Workers could use and accrue no more than 56 hours of paid leave per year for personal and family medical emergencies and in response to cases of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. Would provide up to 80 hours supplemental leave during a declared public health emergency.
