Fayne L. Shead,

95, passed away in San Marcos, California on December 22, 2020. Fayne was born in 1925 in Oklahoma, where he was raised. After serving in the Navy in WWII, he relocated to Albuquerqu­e. He attended the University of New Mexico, where he met his future wife, Betty Ann. They had two children, Debra and Michael. In 1951, Fayne began employment at Sandia National Laboratori­es and worked there for 35 years.

Fayne loved being active and had many friends. He enjoyed playing tennis, golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, playing bridge, square dancing, and taking wonderful summer vacations with his family.

After retiring, he and Betty moved to San Marcos in 1987. From there, they travelled the U.S. extensivel­y. They enjoyed researchin­g genealogy and they earned the rank of Life Master in duplicate bridge.

Fayne, a member of “The Greatest Generation,” led a fulfilling, active, happy life and is greatly missed.

Fayne was preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann. He is survived by daughter Debra Grabowski (Gary); son Robert Michael Shead; grandchild­ren Ryan Grabowski and Laura Snyder (Jeff); great-grandson Morgan Snyder; brother Dick M. Shead (Charlene); and nephew Timothy Shead (Beverly).

Fayne’s cremains will be interred next to those of his wife at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
