Virus death average continues weeklong drop

Number has fallen to 19.71 from 30.43 a day

The seven-day average for COVID-19 deaths in New Mexico has taken a huge dip over the past week.

On Sunday, the New Mexico Department of Health reported 530 new COVID-19 cases and 18 more deaths.

The seven-day average for COVID-19 deaths fell to 19.71. The rolling average has gone down about 35% since reaching 30.43 on Jan. 24.

The total number of deaths in the state attributed to the disease is 3,283. Those whose deaths were reported Sunday were:

■ Five people, ranging from their 40s to their 90s, from Bernalillo County.

■ A woman in her 70s from Chaves County who was hospitalized.

■ A woman in her 70s from Doña Ana County who was hospitalized and had underlying health conditions.

■ A woman in her 70s from McKinley County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

■ A woman in her 60s from Roosevelt County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

■ Two people, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 70s, from Sandoval County.

■ Four people, ranging from their 40s to their 80s, from San Juan County.

■ Two women, one in her 60s and one in her 70s, from Santa Fe County.

■ A man in his 60s from Valencia County who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.

Bernalillo County reported 134 new cases, Doña Ana County had 61, San Juan County had 50, and Santa Fe County reported 37. There were also three new cases among state inmates at the Northwest New Mexico Correctional Facility in Cibola County.

As of Sunday, 479 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in New Mexico, according to the Department of Health. On Saturday, there were 548 COVID-19 hospitalizations.
