APD: Wanted person shoots himself in vehicle

Albuquerque police say a man being pursued by officers apparently shot himself in a vehicle on Monday and later died at a local hospital.

Police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos said in an email that the person, who he described as a “wanted individual,” apparently shot himself after stopping his vehicle near Lomas and Virginia NE.

Gallegos said he was being pursued in connection with a shooting at the Landmark

Apartments earlier in the day in which another man was found shot in the parking lot. That victim remains in stable condition.

The fatal shooting is being called an in-custody death and a MultiAgency Task Force is investigating.
