Tips for testifying

Visit nmlegis.gov and click ■ on the “What’s Happening” header.

For House committees, ■ click on the PDF of the House Committee Schedule. Each committee should have a link to join the webinar and a telephone number to call in.

For Senate committees, click on the PDF of the Senate Committee Schedule. Each committee accepting public comment should have an email address listed and a deadline for when you have to register to participate. Send a message to the email to get the Zoom login information.

The handling of public comment is usually at the discretion of the chair presiding over the meeting. The chair may ask you to raise your digital hand and wait to be called on if you want to speak.

Each person’s comment is often limited to one or two minutes, or there may be a broader time limit for everyone testifying for and against. Be prepared to make your point briefly.
