NMSP IDs man shot by officers in Los Lunas

-

New Mexico State Police have identified the Los Lunas police officers and the man they shot during a foot chase late last month in Los Lunas.

State Police spokesman Ray Wilson said officers Cutter Gouker, Vicente Martinez and Sgt. Anthony Baca shot Jerry Yalch, 40, on Jan. 25. No officers were injured, but Yalch is recovering in the hospital and will be charged on his release.

Wilson said that, around 8 a.m., LLPD officers tried to stop an SUV near South Camelot and Morris in Los Lunas. He said the officers saw that the driver, Yalch, had a handgun and soon fled the SUV on foot.

Wilson said officers gave chase across Interstate 25 and into an open field before Yalch fired at them and the three shot back.

Yalch was struck by gunfire and airlifted to a hospital to be treated for his wounds.
