Andrew was an organ donor who donated his heart, liver and kidney. Before the accident, Andrew told me if anything ever happened to him he wanted to donate his organs. Because Andrew was so young, people have asked me if he actually said this because they wanted to know if he understood what he was asking me to do. I would never have donated his organs had he not told me. Fulfilling Andrew’s wish of being an organ donor was one of hardest things I have done in my life. Andrew was posthumously awarded the Real American GI Joe Award 32 years ago in Washington D.C. Andrew, it has been 32 years, but feels like yesterday. We love and miss you so much. You have not and will never be forgotten. I know in my heart I will be able to hold you again. Son, you make me try harder in life so that I can meet you at the gates of heaven.
