Barbara Ann Aulbach

Barbara Ann Aulbach, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and teacher to many was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, just shy of her 52nd wedding Anniversary and 80th birthday.

Lovingly known as Bobbie, Mom and “Mrs. A,” she was born in New York City. Her family moved west when she was 2 and ended up in Roswell where her parents owned a Drive In called The Barrel. It was here that she honed her roller skating skills. Then on to Albuquerque where she attended St. Mary’s while helping raise her younger siblings. Bobbie then entered the convent where she finished high school. She earned her teaching degree while in the convent in Kansas, loving the children she taught so dearly that after 9 years she decided to leave and start her own family. She fell in love with Al and became an Air Force wife. Bobbie was always the heart of the party and always the one whom her friends called upon for advice and neighborhood gossip. Her and Al moved to upstate New York, then Virginia, Alabama, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and back to Albuquerque, having three daughters along the way. Bobbie taught hundreds of children over the years, at the Albuquerque Job Corps, Our Lady of Assumption, and Polk Middle School , and cherished each and every student she ever taught. She especially loved teaching math and religion. She always spoke of how much she dreamt of going back to the classroom. She had a deep and grounded faith, and in her quiet moments was often praying.

Bobbie fought like crazy after her diagnosis of leukemia 11 years ago, and by sheer force of will stayed with us years longer than expected. She always wanted to write a book that she never got around to, but her legacy will live on in our hearts and memories.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her mother Marguerite Bethel, her father Warren Bethel and her brothers Billy, Mike and Tom. She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Albert, her sister Jeanne Marie, her 3 daughters Christina Marie, Catherine Marie and Margaret Rose, also her precious grandchildren Brigid Marianne, Patrick Francis, Thomas Albert, Alexandra Joyce, Malcolm Alexander and Maxwell Emil, along with many loved nieces, nephews and students. Bobbie will be greatly missed by her loving family. A memorial mass will be held in her honor, with details forthcoming.
