Leopoldo A. Armijo "Zapata"

89 (b. Jan21,1932) passed away at home January 27, 2021.

Our Dad, Leo, was preceded in death by his parents, Luz Viasna & Catalino Armijo of Encino,

NM. He was later raised by Apolonio & Telborsia Armijo. He was preceded in death (1994) by his natural son, Leo D. "Boy" Armijo. "Boy" is survived by daughter, Andelica and 3 grandsons. He was also preceded in death by his 3 brothers: Frederico,"Blackie", Jose and 7 sisters. One surviving sister, Maggie.

Our Dad is survived by our mother Rachel R. Garcia, Padilla, Castillo, Armijo, a marriage of 60 yrs, Two natural children surviving:Roseanna V. Armijo Sanchez (Mike) and their son, Michael O. Sanchez (Kelli) and their children, Grace and baby Michael; Jennifer Armijo and daughter Chloe and grandchild­ren, Leo and Rachel. Surviving step-children, whom he raised and generously cared for and loved,include Becky, Diana, Danny Padilla and their children to gr-gr grandchild­ren, and Johanna Castillo.

Our dad wanted Danny to be remembered for the love and care given during his last days and hours.

Our Dad enlisted into the

Army, 1948, he served and fought in Korea, (Pusan Perimeter). At time of separation, he had 3 Bronze medals. He was in Co. A 6th TK BN (Tank LUCKY 13) as a Gunner (Sgt Temp) 3rd Platoon, and in Co. C 30th TK BN. A half-page photo from LIFE magazine, Apr1951, pg 33 shows our dad as the first tank arriving at the paratroope­rs drop zone near Munson.

After separation from military service, he was employed for over 40 years at Sandia National Labs. Besides fishing with his grandson Michael, he enjoyed playing poker and dice games at the Casinos. He had extensive knowledge of New Mexico history and enjoyed sightseein­g trips around New Mexico, and other states and selling, (meeting new and old friends) at the flea markets.

Our mother, Danny’s wife (Marylou), Michael and family, Roseanna and husband had the blessing of Breaking Bread, passing the wine, praying Psalm 51, anointing Dad with oil from Jerusalem and special laying of hands for our Dad’s journey home. Our Dad is in the presence of Adonai, where he will hear the words, "Job Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant."
