Michael Serna

July 12, 1940 – January 29, 2021 Michael Serna, 80, passed away after a difficult battle with COVID-19. Michael was born and raised in Santa Fe, NM. He attended New Mexico State University prior to serving in the US Air Force. After a tour of duty in Vietnam, he began his career as a draftsman and traffic engineer for the City of Albuquerqu­e where he worked until his retirement. Michael married Dorothy Harding in 1966. They lived and raised their two daughters in Albuquerqu­e, enjoying their involvemen­t in their community and church. Michael was always willing to help. Michael actively volunteere­d with Dorothy for the St. Vincent de Paul Society for many years at St. Bernadette’s Church. After retirement he enjoyed volunteeri­ng for the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, helping preserve and restore the steam train and its historic buildings near Chama, NM. Michael and Dorothy relocated to Austin, TX in 2006 to spend more time with their grandchild­ren. There they became active volunteers at the Central Texas Food Bank through St Catherine’s of Siena Catholic Church.

Michael was happily married to Dorothy for 46 years until her passing in 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Lucille Serna, and his brothers Anthony, Carl, and John. Michael is survived by: his sister Catherine Roybal and her husband Sam, his daughter Kathleen Reeves and her husband Chris, his daughter Christina Noser and her husband Michael, his three grandchild­ren Ryan, William, and Ethan Noser, and his faithful dog Murphy.

Due to COVID-19 a private interment of ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local food bank or charity of your choice.
