Rosita “Rosie” M. Campbell
Rosita “Rosie” M. Campbell, 81, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 29, 2021. Rosie was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lewis, who passed away December 16, 2020.
Rosie was born June 16, 1939 and was the 10th of 16 children of Angela Roman Martinez and Jesus M. Martinez. She was raised in Albuquerque’s historic Martineztown and attended Longfellow Elementary. She attended Albuquerque High School and completed high school in Minnesota. She earned an associate degree from Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute. She met her first husband Robert Carr in Albuquerque and had four children, including three sons Timothy, Steven and Shawn and a daughter, Micka. The family lived in Texas, Alabama, and Tennessee for several years before returning to Albuquerque in 1967.
Rosie and Lewis married December 6, 1975 and remained married until his passing. Together they enjoyed traveling, politics, hosting family gatherings and spending quality time together with family and friends. A devout Catholic, Rosie attended Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. She enjoyed many of life’s pleasures including collecting antiques, gardening (her favorites were roses and lilies), and bird watching, especially hummingbirds.
She retired from the Second Judicial District Court in Bernalillo County where she worked as an executive secretary in the 1970s and early-80s for former Judge Joseph F. Baca. Later, she served on the Juvenile Parole Board for the State of New Mexico for several years.
Rosie was also preceded in death by her parents, Jesus M. and Angela Roman Martinez; brothers Jess, James, and Roberto, and sisters Shirley Salinas and Emma Lutton. She is survived by her sons, Timothy Carr, (Karen), Steve Carr (Sharon), Shawn Carr and daughter Micka Embree. Grandsons Eric Carr, Austin Embree and Adam Embree, and granddaughters, Ashley Carr, Alexx Embree and Alicia Burns; siblings, Maria Martinez, Sophia McGough (Eugene), Mellie Malcolmson, Angela Romero, Inez Benson (Charles), Laura Martinez, Margaret Martinez Siemel (Sasha), Alicia Barber (James); brothers Antonio Martinez, and Frank Martinez (Linda) and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grand-nieces.
Memorial services for both Rosie and Lewis will be held later in spring 2021. French Funerals and Cremations are handling memorial arrangements.
