LOVE IS ALL AROUND

Quintessence hosting a virtual cabaret Valentine’s weekend

- BY KATHALEEN ROBERTS

Just in time for the Valentine’s Day pandemic blues, Quintessence is launching “Love Virtually: A virtual lovefest of song” from Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14.

The a cappella program features interactive singing sessions and performances in a virtual cabaret from Quintessence with guests from Great Britain and Minneapolis.

The weekend of concerts is a kind of follow-up to Quintessence’s virtual choir concert that took place last February, just before the lockdown, artistic director Matthew Greer said.

“We thought Valentine’s Day was a good time to do the same,” he said.

■ At 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, Quintessence will present a virtual cabaret featuring two choir members and special guests for an evening of love songs.

■ At 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, the group will host a live sing-along led by Paul Smith of VOCES8 and Clare Stewart of Apollo5 in a singing workshop (all the way from across the pond).

■ At 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, the Minneapolis pop duo Nation will perform their own compositions and standards in a live broadcast.

■ At noon on Sunday, Feb. 14, British a cappella group Apollo5 will perform a Valentine’s Day program featuring both classical and jazz live from London. Apollo5 performed in Albuquerque last February, Greer said.

Tickets for the weekend series are $50 at quintessence-abq. com/lovevirtually.

The content will remain online for subscribers until the end of February.
