‘Makes the heart sing’

Joe E. and Georgia Gonzales married on March 16, 1963, in a Belen Catholic church.

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on March 16, 2013. During the celebration when I was thanking the family and friends for joining us on that day, someone asked what the secret was in being married this long.

My answer was short and humorous. I said you have to respect each other and both participants have to give 110%, then you do what she tells you. Of course the women in the room gave me a standing ovation.

In reality, both me and my wife were inspired with an article we ran across during our early marriage. It was written by Helen Rice:

We will celebrate our 58th anniversary on March 16, 2021.
