Patience and faith

- — Patrick and Agnes Amador

Many things have changed in the last 60 years, but not the love shared by Agnes and Patrick Amador. “I was a quiet person. I was into books. I was going to be a nun!” Agnes says of her life before meeting Patrick. But one day, when Patrick and another friend invited Agnes to the movies, Agnes’ mother Margaret made her go. “But I don’t wanna go!” Agnes remembers protesting. “But my mom said, ‘GO,’ and ever since then, poof! It blossomed!”

“Bah humbug,” said Patrick after Agnes told that story.

When asked about the secrets to their romance, Patrick said, “We’ve always been together. She’s been my helper for years. Even though sometimes she wasn’t strong enough to hold up the tar or whatever I needed help with, she always managed. Now she helps me get up out of my chair. That’s about it.”

Agnes remembers back when Patrick was courting her. Back then his work was cleaning dentists’ offices. Patrick would write love notes to Agnes on the office stationary. Agnes has those letters still today. “He’s not one for flowers and stuff like that, but I know he’s always thinking of me. He’s always there when I need him, and that’s what’s important,” Agnes says. Her advice for long-lasting love is simple: Patience and putting everything into God’s hands.

Patrick and Agnes Amador celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020.
