Teachers should not jump line for scarce vaccine
I WAS VERY disappointed when the Journal backed teachers jumping the line for vaccination (Jan. 29). The tiers were designed by the government to give priority based on a person’s chance of getting COVID and a person’s chance of dying from COVID. It does not care whether you are rich or poor and is color blind.
Each teacher falls into one of the tiers based on their personal conditions. If a teacher moves from home to a classroom, they should move into another tier and within that tier will be selected randomly. There are about 2 million people in New Mexico who are waiting their turn, and letting one group jump the line sends the wrong message.
I am particularly disturbed by this suggestion because one of the next groups is essential workers who have stocked our store shelves, cleaned our buildings, fixed our air-conditioner or heater and numerous other jobs that allowed us to survive while we stayed home.
