CATCHES OF THE WEEK

Jerome Royal, of El Duende, caught a 19.5-inch rainbow trout on the Chama River using salmon eggs Feb. 3. Xander Turtle, 6, of Roswell, caught his limit of trout at Escondida Lake using PowerBait on Feb. 6. Evangeline Ortiz, 3, of Albuquerqu­e, caught her first fish, a rainbow trout, using pink shrimp Balls O’ Fire and purple nymph scented Powerbait on Feb. 7. Anthony DuPree, of Albuquerqu­e, caught a 23-inch walleye at Santa Rosa Lake using a waterdog Feb. 6. Jusiah Estrada, 11, of Las Vegas, caught and released a 25-inch channel catfish using cut bait Feb. 1. George Torres, of Stanley, caught a limit of five walleye with the largest 24-inches, 4.2-pounds using cut bait from the shore Jan. 31. Hannah Lambie, 11, of Albuquerqu­e, caught a 16-inch rainbow trout at Tingley Beach using a brown Pistol Pete fly Feb. 3.

Streamflow on the CIMARRON RIVER, near Cimarron, on Monday morning was not measured due to ice. Fishing for trout was slow to fair using salmon eggs and Rooster Tail spinners.

EAGLE NEST LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to deteriorat­ing ice conditions.

Ice fishing for trout at LAKE MALOYA was fair to good using PowerBait and dough bait.

Streamflow on the RED RIVER, below the hatchery, on Monday morning was 35.1 cfs. Fishing for trout near the hatchery was fair using small nymph and egg pattern flies.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE, at the Taos Junction Bridge, on Monday morning was 405 cfs. Fishing for trout was good using double nymph rig combinatio­ns of large crane fly nymphs and small midge larvae.

Streamflow on the RIO HONDO near Valdez, RIO MORA, and RIO PUEBLO near Peñasco, on Monday morning was not measured due to ice.

Fishing for all species was slow at UTE LAKE. The water surface temperatur­e was 41 degrees.

Water flow on the ANIMAS RIVER, below Aztec, on Monday morning was 171 cfs.

Fishing for trout at ALBUQUERQU­E AREA DRAINS was fair to good using dough bait and salmon eggs. Anglers reported locating trout near the bridges in Albuquerqu­e.

BLUEWATER LAKE is closed to boating and ice-fishing due to recent weather conditions that have led to unsafe lake surface conditions. The lake is currently closed to all watercraft, including canoes, kayaks, inflatable­s and all types of motorboats. Monday morning flows on the CHAMA RIVER, below El Vado and Abiquiú were 105 cfs and 31.6 cfs, respective­ly. Fishing for trout below Abiquiú Lake was good using black balanced leeches, orange zebra midges, Warden’s Worry flies and salmon eggs. FENTON LAKE is closed to ice fishing due to deteriorat­ing ice conditions. Fishing the river in the state park for trout was good using salmon eggs and flies. HERON LAKE is open for ice fishing. At the JEMEZ WATERS, streamflow on the Jemez, near the town of Jemez, on Monday morning was 17.9 cfs. Fishing for trout was fair to good using salmon eggs and nymph flies. Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER on Monday morning was 392 cfs. Fishing for trout in the quality waters was good using size 24 black foam wing emergers, size 20 black zebra midges, size 22 crystal midges, midge cluster dry flies and red annelids.

Fishing for trout at TINGLEY BEACH was good using brown Pistol Pete’s and fair using green PowerBait.

Fishing for white bass and walleye at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was slow. Fishing for catfish was fair to good using cut bait and shad.

Streamflow on the GILA RIVER on Monday morning was 63.9 cfs.

Streamflow on the RIO GRANDE, below Elephant Butte, on Monday morning was .25 cfs.

Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER, below Sumner Lake, on Monday morning was 16.3 cfs.

Streamflow on the RUIDOSO RIVER on Monday morning at Hollywood was 3.87 cfs.

Fishing for walleye and catfish at SANTA ROSA LAKE was fair using cut bait and water dogs.
