Griffin videos invoked in Trump impeachment trial
Recordings of Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin, the founder of Cowboys for Trump, were used as evidence against Trump during the impeachment proceedings on Thursday.
One of the House impeachment managers, Diana Degette, D-Colo., dedicated several minutes of her presentation to Griffin, who is facing a misdemeanor charge of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority during the riot on Jan. 6.
She played a video of Griffin taken after the riot in which he talked about returning to Washington to hold a “2nd amendment rally” on the steps of the Capitol.
“If we do, it’s going to be a sad day because there’s going to be blood running out of the building,” Griffin said in the recording.
Degette also played a video of Griffin saying “the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.”
She said Trump had retweeted that controversial statement by Griffin, and the two men had spoken to each other at length.
“President Trump’s conduct made it clear that he supported Griffin,” Degette said.
