Lobos to try again vs. Idaho State in 2025
New Mexico has signed a contract to host Idaho State for the presumptive football season opener on Sept. 6, 2025, UNM announced Thursday.
UNM’s contractual obligation is $375,000 for Idaho State, a Football Championship Subdivision school, to play the game. That’s also the amount either school would pay the other if the contract is broken.
The two programs were slated to open the Danny Gonzales era as Lobos head coach last Aug. 29, but the game was not played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UNM did not pay a cancellation fee. UNM went on to relocate in Las Vegas, Nev., played a revamped all-league schedule and went 2-5.
