UP! SPEAK

THE APS laptop(s) my grandson must use for distance learning have crapped out 6 times over the past year. Next time, he will probably throw it against a wall. His mother received a call from his English teacher worried about his mental health. After the first counseling session, she was told to hide all the knives in the house. High school athletics are everything to this dear boy. The best years of his young life are hell right now. Governor, I beg you, abuelita to abeulita, change the rules, let our hijos play high school sports in New Mexico. AMG

I CAN’T help but snicker at those whose panties are in a knot and feign outrage over Sheriff Gonzales and Albuquerque’s two mega churches for thumbing their noses at the governor’s public health orders. I’m curious if these sanctimonious souls are also outraged when unmasked crowds gather to protest for liberal causes or call for MLG to resign when she ignores federal immigration and other laws with which she disagrees. Hypocrites should practice what they preach, pun intended. RS

MOST OF us have struggled to live on half our income in 2020. Which means we will pay half as much income tax in April. I wonder if the government is prepared to live on half its income (this) year? DZH

I RECEIVED a summons for jury duty . ... I promptly threw it in the trash. The governor and mayor pander to nuts who want to defund the police, fine. Police aren’t allowed to arrest criminals, fine. I won’t waste my time participating in a sham. CB

I GOT A jury duty summons (recently). Sanctuary state, not arresting shoplifters, and “peaceful rioters and looters,” etc. I tossed the summons in the garbage. I won’t participate in their charade of law and order. I’m leaving this N.M. for another state that enforces the law. HJ

BOTH 2020 AP Athletes of the Year win the award not because of their athletic ability, but because of the supposed social justice activities. If AP wants to use the social justice standard it should create a Social Justice Person of the Year and judge athletes solely on athletic ability. RM

THE ABQ City Council passed an ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on hairstyle and is very proud of it. Albuquerque had almost 100 homicides in 2020 and ... high crime generally. Do you think there might have been anything to do more important . ... ? SDH

WORLD’S RICHEST

billionaires added about $1 trillion to their total net worth since the pandemic began while tens of millions of American families don’t have enough to eat. America, we can do better. Let’s correct the tax code giveaways, initiate a wealth tax, tax market trading, increase the inheritance tax for the uber wealthy and provide green energy/infrastructure jobs now. WS

THE DEMOCRATS are so quick to blame the Republicans for not jumping to approve the new stimulus plan, but is it fair to push us deeper in debt because you all couldn’t think of putting the American

people first before giving foreign countries millions? ... BF

TO ASSESS the level of voter fraud, states would have to verify the current residency of each voter. No state verifies residency; they simply rely on the accuracy of voter registration lists. This is the biggest potential source of fraud. JF

I READ in the Dec. 31 Journal how our city used the millions of CARE dollars to pay government workers salaries. I thought that I had already paid those salaries with my tax money. What is the city doing with my tax money? Can I get my tax money back? If the city had laid off the nonessential government workers like the governor made all the other businesses do, then I would surely get my money back. JT

THANKS TO our progressive Democrat-led government, if you want your children to get an education, you must hire someone or do it yourself. If you want personal safety, you have to do it yourself or hire private security. And thanks to the ETA, sometime soon, if you want reliable electricity, you will need to provide your own backup power. Plus, we all get to pay higher taxes for the privilege . ... RBD

OUR GOVERNOR says she is following the science in her COVID response. Being an engineer, I speak in numbers. And the numbers don’t support her “science.” ... The mask mandate makes sense; no large crowds makes sense; no indoor dining does not. A couple having dinner out in a restaurant with tables 6 feet apart is not a superspreader event . ... Every death is a terrible loss. But the numbers show even the most restrictive rules cannot stop the spread of this virus . ... JM
