Elizabeth Lueking

-

Elizabeth Ann Lueking passed away suddenly on February 17, 2021, in Albuquerque, NM. Liz was born in Ferguson, MO, second daughter of Herman A and Betty (Wunnenberg) Lueking.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ferguson. She was proud of earning the highest rank in Girls Scouts, The Gold Award.

She graduated from McCluer High School in 1976 and from St Louis Community CollegeFlorissant Valley Nursing School.

Elizabeth worked at DePaul and St. Luke’s hospitals as a labor and delivery nurse, where she not only helped bring many babies into the world, but was more than happy to suggest the lovely name “Elizabeth” to any new parent still struggling with a first or middle name for their new baby girl. After that, she served as complex case manager for Coventry Health Care Plan before retiring in 2014 to Albuquerque, NM, where she loved being surrounded by the mountains in the high desert country, taking care of her Turtle Sanctuary, and fostering dachshunds.

Elizabeth loved to travel, find treasures at estate sales, create art & crafts, and most of all, spoil all the kids she considered her nieces and nephews and who knew her as “Tante”.

She leaves behind her brothers, Herman A Lueking, III of St. Louis, and Bill (Heidi) Lueking of Hockessin, DE; four nephews Eric Barnes, Will and Hayden Lueking, and Herman A Lueking IV; her aunt, Clare Chapman and family; her uncle, Arthur (Laura) Lueking and family; and her step siblings David (Mary) Smith, Kathleen (James) Crowley, Janice (Ken) Young, Rosemary (Dale) Hart, Kay (Bill) Helton and their families.

She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Constance Barnes, her brotherin-law, Randall Barnes, and her stepsister, Therese Hagedorn.

Liz was able to enjoy her retirement in New Mexico with her lifelong friend Kathy Dieruf and family who called her Uncle Liz.

Donations can be made in her name to charities Elizabeth supported: The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition or to the New Mexico Dachshund Rescue, in lieu of flowers.

A memorial will be held at a future date.
