Sue Eileen (Wood) Williams,

80, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 12th. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Victor and Ida Wood. She moved to Albuquerqu­e with her family in 1952. She graduated from Highland High School in 1958 and Texas Christian University in 1962. She married Thomas Williams on June 22, 1968. Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, Tom Williams; sons Lowell Williams of Albuquerqu­e and Kyle (Kristina) Williams of Rochester, New York; brothers Vern (Sally) Wood of Edgewood and Charles Wood of Albuquerqu­e; six beloved grandchild­ren: Massey, Jess, Sasha, Lauren, Lance and Mace; nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends.

Sue was a longtime, active member of Central United Methodist Church and Harmony Class in Albuquerqu­e. She retired from Albuquerqu­e Public Schools as a teacher at Osuna Elementary School. Sue was a gifted golfer, receiving an offer from profession­al golfer Ben Hogan while at TCU to join the LPGA. She left TCU for a semester to attend UNM and represent them as their first woman golfer in the national women’s collegiate golf tournament. Sue was a force to be reckoned with on the golf course, competing in and winning numerous tournament­s throughout her life against both men and women. She and her husband, Tom, were charter members of the Tanoan Country Club, and Sue was the first president of the Tanoan Women’s Golf Associatio­n.

Sue was a phenomenal artist. Her paintings hung in galleries in Albuquerqu­e and Santa Fe and are currently treasured in homes across the country. Additional­ly, Sue was an accomplish­ed pianist, passing her love of music on to her children and grandchild­ren.

Gratitude is sent to all of her friends who provided love, prayers and support throughout her lifetime. She cherished each relationsh­ip. Sue loved her family unconditio­nally. Her physical presence will be greatly missed by all, but her spirit and love will be carried in our hearts forever.
