Pets of the week

SF ANIMAL SHELTER & HUMANE SOCIETY

-

The shelter is celebrating senior pets this month. Remember, these senior pets need loving homes and unconditional love, too. They still have a lot of love and time to share. Meet 7-year-old Coah. She is a lovely girl who needs a second chance in life. Coah, who weighs 65 pounds, is a sweetheart and such a calm pup. Her prior guardian tells us that she is good with other dogs and with children. She loves to go on walks and lay around, just like all senior dogs do.

Kitty is a handsome, gentle 10-pound, 7-yearold domestic shorthaired male cat who came to SFAS when his guardian could no longer care for him. He is a tripod, which means he only has three legs, but that doesn’t keep Kitty from getting around! He is very social and vocal, and will let you know when he wants to cuddle. Because he has only three legs, Kitty should be a 100% indoor cat.

These and other animals are available for adoption from the Santa Fe Animal Shelter at 100 Caja del Rio Road. The shelter’s adoption hours during the pandemic are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. daily and are by appointment only. Call 983-4309 ext. 1610 or email Adoption@ SFHumaneSociety.org to schedule an appointment to see these cute pets or the many others looking for a forever home.

IN OTHER NEWS,

Santa Fe Animal Shelter, along with Magnolia Pictures, is hosting an exclusive virtual movie event of “Stray,” beginning March 5, with 50% of the proceeds benefitting homeless animals in New Mexico.

“Stray” explores what it means to live as a being without status or security, following three stray dogs — Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal — as they embark on inconspicuous journeys through Turkish society that allow us a candid portrait of human life — and their own canine culture.

The 70-minute film, which will be available for screening at home is a critical observation of human civilization through the unfamiliar gaze of dogs and a sensory voyage into new ways of seeing.

The Santa Fe Animal Shelter was selected to benefit from the film’s virtual screening, with proceeds going to help injured and homeless animals in New Mexico. For more information, visit SFHumaneSociety.org.

ESPAÑOLA HUMANE

While it still is a bit chilly outside, there is nothing like a new doggie to warm you up with cuddles and kisses. Española Humane has two splendid dogs looking for homes.

First, meet Jada. She is a year old, 45-pound, honey bunny, a freckled peach of a lab mix. She is currently in foster care where she’s loving life!

“Jada is a very bright and affectionate girl,” her fosters report. She is house trained and working on her leash skills, and she is a “smart girl and learns fast. She is great with other dogs and love her toys. Jada will make a great running or hiking buddy.”

Looking for an accountability partner? Jada is your gal!

Apply to adopt this gorgeous dog, and we can schedule a meet-and-greet with her foster family.

From car rides to snow zoomies to snuggling his stuffies to just being a big chunkin’ hunk of a lap dog, 2-year-old Blu and his cool half-blue-half-brown eyes, and his charming up-down ears bring joy every day to his foster family.

“He’s a love bug. Loves to cuddle and be with people,” his fosters said.

Blu would love another playful dog buddy (his foster family has several) and a big yard to romp around. Blu makes his fosters laugh with his “sniff and lick policy” that applies to everything: treats, cars, other dogs, couches — you name it, he sniffs it and then gives it a lick!

If you are looking for a smilin’ best bud who will also love your other pets, Blu is your guy!

Española Humane is located at 108 Hamm Parkway in Española. Because of COVID-19, it is currently closed to the public and is offering adoptions by appointment only. Please submit an application for any of our adoptable pets by visiting the shelter’s website at www.espanolahumane. org. You can also see more adoptable pets at www. petango.com/espanola.
