The Lobos may need a bit of time to get acclimated in Colorado Springs after going 17 days between games. Not only did UNM have back-to-back series at Colorado State and Wyoming postponed because of a positive COVID-19 test result, they’ll also be without that stillunidentified player for both games at Air Force. Regardless of their lineup, pace will be key for the Lobos, who lead the MWC in scoring (83.5 ppg) and figure to have the advantage in an up-and-down game. Ball security will be equally significant against the Falcons’ full-court defensive pressure. UNM’s guards have largely taken turns providing scoring, but the offense is at its best when Anderson and McGruder get involved. Both should have opportunities inside against Air Force, which is not a particularly strong rebounding team. The Lobos lead the series 43-3 but lost to AFA last season in Albuquerque.

The Falcons picked up a 59-32 win over Colorado Christian last week after a scheduled series against Nevada was postponed. It broke up a four-game losing streak but did not snap a string of 10 consecutive games in which Air Force has failed to reach 60 points. Gobrecht’s team ranks last in the Mountain West in scoring (59.9 ppg) and attempts to compensate with aggressive, highpressure defense. Air Force leads the MWC in steals at 11.1 per contest (UNM is second at 9.3), and looks to score off turnovers whenever possible. Despite its offensive shortcomings, AFA is a veteran team with several capable scorers. Snyder, who scored a career-best 34 points against New Mexico last season, leads the team with 31 3-pointers, while Gadison has 21 and is shooting 41% from long range. The rest of the Falcons are shooting just 23.4% from 3-point range. Autrey ranks fourth in the MWC in assists.
