Students need in-person class
I AM appalled by the decision of APS to not allow in-person learning for the remainder of the school year. This is a completely cowardly decision (by) it and the teachers’ union. All health authorities agree children, especially elementary-age students, are not big carriers of COVID. Meanwhile kids are losing both academically and socially a huge part of their lives.
My kindergarten grandson is lucky in one way: He has two grandmothers who daily monitor and help with his class work while his (widowed) mom works. We, who are both over 70, have to travel over 40 miles round-trip to their house for “school.” Why can private schools, not an option because of cost, successfully reopen when APS is afraid to? ... Grandparents, parents, day care center workers are tired, frustrated and angry, and our kids are suffering mentally, emotionally and academically . ... HELEN M. JOHNSON
