Cowboys for Trump files appeal in federal case
Cowboys for Trump has appealed a December 2020 decision by U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory Fouratt that denied the group’s efforts to avoid financial disclosure requirements ordered by a lower court.
The initial federal court case filed by Cowboys for Trump and its founder Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin against Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver’s office disputed claims that the group should be classified as a political action committee.
The recently filed appeal was made in the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.
The original decision on the case made by Cowboys for Trump against Toulouse Oliver followed a battle that Griffin said was a political move to harass his organization and its donors.
