The Village of Tijeras has pulled together to create something for the community. On Saturday, the village’s new Park and View cinema will screen its first film.

The drive-in theater is located at 12 Camino Municipal in Tijeras.

“I have been eager to find ways to bring our community together during these trying times,” Mayor Jake Bruton said. “I believe the Park and View will be an exciting way to come together as a community while still following public health guidelines. We are very thankful for our community partners, such as PNM and GCC Rio Grande, for their support to get this event off the ground.”

According to Hallie Brown, Village of Tijeras clerk/manager, the village has been working on the project since October.

“We wanted to put on an event in October, but the area wasn’t completed,” Brown said. “It was important to do it right and we had to wait until December before we got the donation of the six recycled utility poles from PNM.”

At that point, Brown said the health orders were too strict to have an event.

With new public health orders from Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, the Park and View cinema will be able to accommodate a maximum of 80 vehicles for each event.

Brown said the project came together with donations from PNM and GCC Rio Grande in Tijeras.

“This has really been a community effort,” Brown said. “The costs that we have now are procuring the movie rights. We’ve been trying to find the best and most effective way to bring this to the community while on a budget.”

Pat Vincent-Collawn, president, CEO and chairman of PNM, said the company was happy to be involved.

“The collaboration on this project with the Village of Tijeras is a creative solution and we are so proud to have been able to play a small part with the Park and View theater,” she said.

The Park and View will kick off at 7 p.m. on Feb. 27 with a showing of “Forrest Gump.”

The second showing will be “The Goonies” at 7 p.m. March 13.

Tickets are $10 per car, paid in cash on the night of the showing. Reservations are required at 281-1220 or at cognitoforms.com/ VillageOfTijeras/villageoftijerasparkandviewtickets.
