SPORTS SPEAK UP!

HEY UNM OFFICIALS, let’s tone it down with the bowing and effusive praise for our governor. Have you suddenly forgotten that until now she has been the only governor in America who would not allow its collegiate teams to play (or even properly practice most of the season) at home in an empty stadium or arena? What she put the road-weary UNM football team, along with the men’s and women’s basketball programs through, has been so unjust. Could the actual reason for the loosening of restrictions be that New Mexico United’s 2021 season is on the horizon?

IT IS GUT-WRENCHING to see the Lobo men lose to Air Force. There are some who want to blame the Lobos’ woes on the Governor. But after 20 games, this team should know the fundamentals (pass out of a double team; follow your shot; don’t reach on defense; don’t dribble into three defenders, etc.). It’s probably a blessing that the team didn’t play at the Pit this year. The fans would have stayed away and demanded a refund on their season tickets. If Weir is still around next season, I won’t renew my tickets.

TO THOSE WHO continue to blame the governor for hindering sports in New Mexico, I say this:

If her actions save one life or one person from suffering, more power to her. Sports be damned.

I NEVER THOUGHT I would agree with a lawyer but Rudy the Attorney hit the nail on the head when he stated how cruel the Governor has reacted (by) sending our athletes out of state to fend for themselves. Squandered well over a million dollars. Rudy, it got so frigid around here with the last cold snap they actually caught some lawyers around here with their hands in their own pockets!

TO RUDY THE ATTORNEY: If the governor sending athletes out of town to stay in hotels and play sports is the cruelest thing you’ve ever seen, then you haven’t witnessed much cruelty. Take a look at what’s gone on in Syria the past few years. … Genocide is cruelty! Playing sports out of town or giving up a year, in the case of high schoolers is not cruelty, is a first-world inconvenience.

PLAYING IN a high school basketball championship (is) a memory I cherish! However,43 years as an ER physician sometimes watching patients die from inability to breathe trumps those basketball memories. So, Rudy the Attorney, sending our sports teams to fend for themselves is “the cruelest thing he’s seen in 65 years on this planet”? Wow. Talk to a COVID nurse sometime.

SO, TIGER might sue the city/county for an unsafe road? Maybe he should offer to pay for improvements. However, environmentalists will block any attempt at changing anything. — C
