The Albuquerque School of Healing Arts is scheduled to open July 1 at 4600 Copper NE and is accepting students for its first cohort, a release from the company said.

The independent school, founded by Laura Freed and Sarah Ferrell, offers a massage therapy program that is “grounded in natural therapeutics curriculum,” the release said. The school’s first continuing education classes will begin Sept. 8.

The school will offer training in several massage therapy modalities, including Swedish, deep-tissue, sports, pregnancy and others. Students will also study other practices including cranial sacral therapy, Thai massage, yoga, nutrition and other subjects.

The program is accredited by State of New Mexico’s Massage Therapy Board. More information is available at ashanm.com.

A $1.8 million federal grant for New Mexico’s Homewise Inc., will help finance home purchase, home improvement and home refinancing loans for modest-incomes households in the state, according to a news release.

The grant was awarded via the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution Rapid Response Program, which was designed to allow the federal government to quickly disburse money into communities in need.

Homewise provides a number of services, including affordable mortgage lending and down payment assistance, loan servicing, refinance and home improvement lending, financial literacy education and coaching and real estate services. For more information, visit www.homewise.org.
