- JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRES

Novak Djokovic is going to the Tokyo Olympics, keeping alive his chance for a “Golden Slam.” Djokovic, 34, posted Thursday on Twitter that he had booked his flight and is proud to represent Serbia at the Olympics.

If the top-ranked Djokovic wins gold in men’s singles and at the U.S. Open, he would be the first male tennis player to complete a “Golden Slam” — all four Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympics in the same calendar year.

BASKETBALL: Team USA’s Bradley Beal will miss the Olympics after the Wizards star was placed in the COVID-19 health and safety protocols, USA Basketball announced Thursday. Also, Detroit’s Jerami Grant is in the COVID-19 protocols, team officials said, and his status for the Olympics has not been determined. In addition, the team’s exhibition game vs. Australia scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada, was canceled because of health and safety protocols.
