Amelia (Amy) Costales, 84, went home to her Savior on March 21, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Ernest; parents,

Nick and Helen Sanchez; brother, Gene Sanchez; infant grandson, Joseph and grandson-in-law, Paul Martinez, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Cathy, Paul (Cheri), Christine (Ted), Nick (Naomi), Michelle (Joe); grandchild­ren, Caryn, Esther (Jared), Aly, Ben, Caila, Cori, Teddy, Damian (Kiyomi), Elijah, Sophia (Jake), greatgrand­children, Brynn, Elena, Kelly Ann, Asher, Mina, Ocean, Edin, Ezra; sisters, Alyce (Abel) Chavez, Lillie Mae (Dick) Radtke, Lorraine Sanchez; brothers, William Sanchez, Robert (Erma)Sanchez, Daniel (Bunny) Sanchez; sister-in-law, Frances (Robert) Tenorio.

Amy was a graduate of Harwood Girl’s School and the Regina School of Nursing. After nursing school she worked in the newborn nursery of what was then BCMC (Bernalillo County Medical Center). As she raised her family she volunteere­d her time throughout the years as a reading tutor, playing the guitar and singing at various nursing homes, and as a translator for the South Broadway Maternity and Infant Clinic. Amy also sang in the Mosaic Choir and held various offices within Church Women United.

Amy was a dedicated member of El Buen Samaritano UMC where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years and served in numerous official capacities. She loved her family, church, and camp friends. Above all, she loved the Lord and studying His Word. Amy’s heart and home were always open to anyone who needed a meal or place to stay.

A memorial service celebratin­g Amy’s life will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at El Buen Samaritano UMC, 700 Granite NW, Albuquerqu­e, NM 87102. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to El Buen Samaritano or Sacramento Camp, PO Box 8, Sacramento, NM 88347 are greatly appreciate­d.
