Joel Rue LaFleur

-

It is with heavy hearts that our husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend Joel Rue LaFleur, 78, sadly lost his battle to cancer on May 23, 2021 in San Antonio TX, where he resided.

Born in September 1942 in Houston TX to parents Joe and Jeanelle, and raised in Albuquerque NM, which he loved and had many fond memories. His love of trains took him to El Paso TX to start his lifelong career working for the Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad as a locomotive engineer where he made many great lifelong friends and memories along the way.

Joel lived and loved his life and family to the fullest and will forever be remembered for having a great heart and a great love of bicycles and Cajun music. In his early life, he enjoyed motocross racing and made many cross country trips pedaling his bicycle through all fifty US states. A treasured trip included bicycling across Canada and finding his namesake street “Rue LaFleur” in Montreal. In his later life, he loved joy riding on his motorcycle through the hill country of San Antonio TX.

He is survived by his wife Helen, sisters Ricki and Judy, son Russ (Jamie), daughter Jamelle, nephews Jason (Christine) and James, niece Jennifer (Alex), grandchildren Trey (John) and Cecilia, and many dear family and friends. Since we are not able to gather and celebrate Joel, please join Joel’s family on Sept. 5, 2021 by visiting your favorite body of water and take a moment to remember his memory.

In lieu of flowers, a tribute donation may be made in Joel’s memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by visiting https:// givenow.lls.org. Please be sure to include Joel’s first and last name with your donation.
