SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
The Huskies went 1-3 as one of the few Football Championship Subdivision teams to play in 2020. They averaged 33.75 points in their games, including a 35-33 loss at Texas Tech where they were 40-point underdogs. Houston Baptist, like Texas Tech, also used the Air Raid offense under the direction of then-offensive coordinator Zach Kittley and quarterback Bailey Zappe. Kittley, who also worked at Texas Tech while Patrick Mahomes played there, is now the OC at Western Kentucky, where Zappe transferred, along with receivers Ben Ratzlaff, and Jerreth and Josh Sterns, the brothers who led the Huskies in receiving last year. Cedric Cormier, previously the wide receivers coach at UNLV, is the Huskies’ new OC, and Blaise Bentsen is now Houston Baptist’s starting quarterback. He’ll be making his first start after appearing in three games as a true freshman.
