QUICK HITS Lobo volleyball improves to 5-0

ABILENE, Texas — The University of New Mexico volleyball team continued its early season run of success with a pair of Friday sweeps over Green Bay (25-16, 25-15, 25-18) and later of host Abilene Christian (25-13, 25-13, 25-21) in the Wildcat Classic.

Melissa Walden recorded her third and fourth doubledoub­les of the season with 32 assists and 13 digs in the win over Green Bay and 28 assists and 11 digs in the win over ACU.

The Lobos play Texas Southern on Saturday, then host their own tournament next Friday with Southeaste­rn Louisiana, Seattle and UC San Diego.

NMSU splits: In Las Cruces, the New Mexico State Aggies played a pair of five-set matches Friday in the Springhill Suites Invitation­al — splitting with a pair of Power 5 conference opponents.

In the first match, NMSU rallied for a 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 17-25, 28-26, 15-8) win over Northweste­rn.

Friday night, Pac-12 foe Arizona beat the Aggies 3-2 (14-25, 14-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-12) to drop NMSU to 3-2 on the season.

The Aggies play rival UTEP in El Paso at 1 p.m. Saturday.
