Born in Louisville, KY, she went to school and lived in Texas, Virginia, Arkansas,Tennessee, and Missouri. Her first job was as an engineering draftsman for Curtis Wright Aeronautics in St. Louis during World War II, where she had her first taste of symphonic music and the legitimate theatre interests, which were to become the joys of her life. Her great joy was her 29 years as a member of the New Mexico Symphony Chorus.
