In the case of the vibrant, gorgeous, eye-popping, colorful and, well, enchanting “Encanto,” you can see the effort of every single individual listed in the credits come to full flourish on the big screen. Disney’s 60th animated film is one of the most beautiful in the long and storied history of the catalog, and a surefire contender for best animated feature of 2021.
With crisp and assured direction from Byron Howard and Jared Bush (with lead screenwriter Charise Castro Smith co-directing), a bounty of catchy new songs by the ubiquitous treasure that is one Lin-Manuel Miranda and fantastic voice work from the ensemble cast, “Encanto” is a magical and warmhearted journey with lovely messaging about the importance of family, some genuinely funny set pieces and those stunning visuals that fill every corner of the screen. If you could hug a movie, this is the kind of movie you’d want to hug.

Alex Gianopoulos is used to deadlines. A a location manager in the film industry, he has to meet them daily. When it came to his short film “Kiss Me, Nancy,” Gianopoulos wanted to create something he would be proud of. Mission accomplished. The short film was created as part of the Four Points Film Project, a sister competition to the 48 Hour Film Project. The Four Points Film Project is different in that filmmakers get three days to write, direct and edit a short film for competition.
3Chris Turri has an eye for art. Not to mention that his hands are magical when transforming the metal he works with. He’ll tell you that working one day in his life takes patience. Turri will be one of five artists participating in the seventh annual Paint and Patina — Fine Art Show, which runs from Friday, Dec. 3, through Sunday, Dec. 5, at Casa Vieja Brewery in Corrales. Turri works primarily with reclaimed metal. The Corrales resident often finds the metal while on road trips through the Land of Enchantment.

If you think of the Avengers as an NFL team, Hawkeye is the equivalent of the field goal kicker. He’s the small guy who has a particular and valuable set of skills that can be implemented at crucial times — but let’s be real — he’s no Thor or Hulk or Cap when it comes to getting in the trenches and throwing down with megavillains from far-flung galaxies.
The Avenging humans who remain human, e.g., Tony Stark and Spidey without their suits, Black Widow, et al., are of course the most vulnerable superheroes. (Rest in power, Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff.) So it is with Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye, the reluctant antihero who wants nothing more than to retire the bow and arrow and live out his days as a husband and father to his loving family — but we all know that ain’t happening.
