Maldonado huge in Wyoming win

He scores 35 to lead Cowboys past CSU

LARAMIE, Wyo. — Hunter Maldonado had a career-high 35 points, including the go-ahead layup with just under a minute to play, as Wyoming stretched its home winning streak to nine games, defeating Colorado State 84-78 in overtime on Monday night.

Maldonado hit 10 of 11 free throws.

Graham Ike had 16 points and eight rebounds for Wyoming (173, 6-1 Mountain West Conference). Drake Jeffries added 16 points. Jeremiah Oden had 12 points and seven rebounds.

David Roddy had 23 points for the Rams (16-3, 6-3). Isaiah Stevens added 17 points.

NO. 8 BAYLOR 81, WEST VIRGINIA 77: In Waco, Texas, James Akinjo scored 25 points and Matthew Mayer had all nine of his points in the closing minutes while putting the Bears ahead to stay.

Mayer hadn’t scored until his layup with 3:27 left to break a 66-66 tie, and put Baylor (19-3, 7-2 Big 12) in the lead for good. Jeremy Sochan had a steal in the backcourt and passed ahead to Mayer, who seconds later rebounded Sochan’s second missed free throw and made a strong inside basket. He later added a 3-pointer.

The Bears were without injured guards Adam Flagler (knee) and LJ Cryer (foot). Flagler is a starter averaging 12.7 points a game and Cryer, their leading scorer at 13.9 points a game, missed his second game in a row. NO. 9 DUKE 57, NOTRE DAME

43: In South Bend, Ind., freshman Paolo Banchero scored 21 points, fellow classmate A.J. Griffin added 13 and each had a team-high nine rebounds as the Blue Devils handed Notre Dame its first home loss of the season in an Atlantic Coast Conference rout.

The Blue Devils (18-3, 8-2 ACC) pulled into a first-place tie with idle Miami with their fourth straight victory.

Notre Dame, which entered the game 9-0 at home this season with victories over Kentucky and North Carolina (14-7, 7-3), saw its fourgame winning streak end. Note TOP 25: Auburn earned 49 of 61 first-place votes in Monday’s new Associated Press poll to extend the program’s first stay at No. 1 for a second straight week, while John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats jumped to No. 5 for the program’s highest ranking in the AP Top 25 in more than two years.

Michigan (19-2, 10-1 Big Ten) scored the opening nine points of the game and knocked the Hoosiers (14-3, 6-1) out of sole possession of first place in the Big Ten. NO. 7 TENNESSEE 86, ARKANSAS 83, OT: In Knoxville, Tenn., Jordan Horston scored 24 points, including the last three in overtime, to lead Tennessee in a comefrom-behind victory.

The Lady Volunteers (19-2, 7-1 Southeaste­rn Conference) trailed by as many as 13 points in the third quarter. No. 23 OHIO STATE 92, No. 21 IOWA 88: In Iowa City, Iowa, Taylor Mikesell scored 24 points, Jacy Sheldon had 18 and Ohio State outlasted Iowa. NEW MEXICO STATE 63, UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY 51: In Las Cruces, NMSU graduate student Tayelin Grays compiled career-highs in both points and rebounds, finishing with 18 points and 12 boards to lead the Aggies (7-2, 3-4 Western Athletic Conference).

NMSU junior Soufia Inoussa added 10 points and Molly Kaiser scored 10 points for her fifth doubledigi­t scoring effort of the season.
