What you need to know about Colorado State: The Rams have climbed several notches to fourth place in the Mountain West standings with back-to-back wins over Fresno State and Nevada. When its offense is clicking, CSU remains one of the league’s most dangerous teams. New Mexico got firsthand evidence on Jan. 15, when the Rams scored 23 points in the final 6:30 of the third quarter to erase a 17-point deficit and even the score. CSU managed just 12 points in the fourth quarter, however, and UNM took an 85-74 win. The Rams have largely been hot and cold in MWC play after going 9-1 in non-conference games. Much like UNM, Colorado State gets most of its production from its starting five. Hofschild is one of the league’s most dynamic players, ranking fifth in MWC scoring and eighth nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.77). CSU leads the nation in fewest turnovers (9.9 per game) and committed just four against New Mexico.

What you need to know about New Mexico: Tied with UNLV atop the Mountain West standings, the Lobos will try to capitalize on a stretch during which they play five of their next six games at home. UNM is 11-0 at the Pit, but three of its four conference home games were nail-biters. UNM figures to get another stiff challenge from Colorado State, which does an effective job taking away fast-break opportunities and drives to the basket. The Rams have typically dared UNM’s posts to shoot from the perimeter, and Anderson, McGruder and Reus burned them with 14 of the team’s 19 3-pointers in a Lobos win on Jan. 15. Anderson has made 32 3-pointers and is shooting 40% from behind the arc. Recent opponents have prioritized tight defense against LaTascya Duff, who ranks seventh nationally in 3-point percentage (46.2%). She ranks eighth with 61 3s and has fewer attempts than any of the players ranked above her.
