Dorothy Vigil

Dorothy C. Vigil passed away peacefully, with her sister, Martha, at her side, on March 12, 2022, at Life Spire Assisted Living in Albuquerqu­e, New Mexico.

Dorothy is survived by her sisters Martha Freundlich of Albuquerqu­e, NM and Mary Frances Montano of Corrales, NM; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends. She is preceded in death by her father, Clem Vigil, her mother, Simona Vigil, and sister, Jane Martinez.

Dorothy was born in Logan, NM to Clem and Simona Vigil. She was raised in Tucumcari, NM. She entered the convent at age 16. She said her final vows as a Dominican Nun, Sister Juanita Marie. She spent 18 years in the convent. Dorothy was highly educated with several post graduate degrees. Her early career was spent as an educator. She later worked for the Arizona Department of Correction­s where she had many roles including a warden of a high security prison. After her retirement Dorothy returned to Albuquerqu­e, NM in December 2013. Dorothy was a caring, strong, and determined lady who dedicated her life to helping others. Dorothy’s hobbies included reading, keeping up with current events and sports. She loved socializin­g and was a great listener. She loved and enjoyed her family, and friends. Dorothy will be greatly missed.

A Rosary will be recited on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE, Albuquerqu­e, NM 87110. Arrangemen­ts by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4Th. St. NW.
