Robin N. McCoy

-

Robin McCoy, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 28.

Robin was born in El Paso, Texas on March 1, 1929, to Ben and Ruth Norton. After graduating from

El Paso High School, she attended Mills College in Oakland California. She received her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and returned to El Paso.

She married Robert W. McCoy (Bob) in 1951 and came to Albuquerque in 1954 when Bob entered UNM Law School. Together they raised three children, Matthew, Daniel and Amy in Corrales.

Robin was a member at First Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and deacon. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship, PEO and was a docent at Albuquerque Natural History Museum and the Indian Cultural Pueblo Center. She also served on Sandia Preparatory School’s Board of Trustees.

Robin’s true passion was art. She surrounded herself and others with the beauty of her works—be they paintings in either oils or water colors or small sculptures crafted by her nimble fingers. By her 50s, she had also taken up wood carving, creating beautiful doors and headboards to capture scenes from life’s precious moments. She even took up writing from time to time. If you were lucky, you might have received a special poem for a birthday or special occasion.

She loved being surrounded by animals from a very young age. She always had a dog nearby and loved horses. She moved to Houston in 2009 to be closer to her daughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert W. McCoy, sons Matthew Norton McCoy and Daniel Watt McCoy, and sister Sarah Jane Norton Dodds.

She survived by her daughter Amy Pettigrew and Richard Pettigrew, along with three grandsons and partners, Dustin Pettigrew and Melissa Pettigrew, Alex Pettigrew and Shelby Pettigrew, and Zachary Pettigrew and Cameron Strong.

A private memorial celebration will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
